About Me

2017 info:

A lot of things have recently changed, like I'm retired now.  I do what I want when I want to do them.  My work in evolving because of that attitude too.  Mostly I'm a maker, tinker, and tinker....I've always wanted to be able to say that, now I can.

With that being said, I've decided to use 500 Letters to generate my artist statement. Artist Statement Generator is another fun place to go.  Here's the latest one:

Moon (°1958, Indianapolis, United States) makes paintings, photos and mixed media artworks. By experimenting with aleatoric processes, Moon often creates work using creative game tactics, but these are never permissive. Play is a serious matter: during the game, different rules apply than in everyday life and even everyday objects undergo transubstantiation.

Her paintings are characterised by the use of everyday objects in an atmosphere of middleclass mentality in which recognition plays an important role. By taking daily life as subject matter while commenting on the everyday aesthetic of middle class values, she formalizes the coincidental and emphasizes the conscious process of composition that is behind the seemingly random works. The thought processes, which are supposedly private, highly subjective and unfiltered in their references to dream worlds, are frequently revealed as assemblages.

Her works feature coincidental, accidental and unexpected connections which make it possible to revise art history and, even better, to complement it. Combining unrelated aspects lead to surprising analogies. Moon currently lives and works in Danville.

Am I making fun of artist statements, yeah I am.

2016 info:

My name is Moon Stumpp and I’m a mixed media artist.  My current focus is with paint is mostly watercolor and ink. My other focus is digital, which seems to be taking over my creative energies. I love photo manipulation, photo collage, art photography, and digital mixed media…but I doubt that I can give up a paint brush.

The below is several different versions of an artist statement.  Why? I'm a mixed media artist and each series changes what I create. With each series, my work evolves and moves towards a direction of completion.

Artist Bio 2-D/Artist statement - Moon Stumpp

The short and sweet version:
Moon Stumpp is a watercolor, mixed water media, and acrylic painter. Her work ranges from still life to abstract but her passion is mixed wet media infused with color.

The middle of the road version:
Moon Stumpp is my name and I'm a mixed media artist. My work ranges from still life to abstract to whimsical but my passion is color. The paintings are a co-existence of acrylic, watercolor, molding compounds, metallic and iridescent mediums, pastels, inks, printmaking, and various collage aspects that have been infused with imagination. Her other work includes photo manipulation, photo collage, art photography, and digital mixed media.

The typical....
I create the places and things from my imagination. My diverse experiences in life are what peek into my work. While I rarely paint those experiences, my life and art are influenced by them. My work ranges from still life to abstract but my passion is mixed media infused with color. The paintings are a co-existence of acrylic, watercolor, molding compounds, metallic and iridescent mediums, pastels, inks, printmaking, and various collage aspects that have been infused with my imagination.

The current work displayed is mixed media of one form or another. The process starts with either Arches watercolor paper, Yupo, or tung wood painting panels that are also called cradled panel. What I enjoy about the cradled panels is that they give the paint a different visual appearance, much like a ‘tile’ look.

The subject matter comes from a direct spontaneous matter that is a journey of color, shape, and energy. The paint support begins the process; the paint and various other mediums fuel the journey. The composition of value, color, shape, and texture start as a chaotic beginning. The complex layers develop into the synergy of the finished work.

Glass Bio (2-D artist statement below):

In the 90’s, our studio started out with primarily wearable art and pottery. The jewelry incorporated complex beadwork, silversmithing, and unique design. Over the years, it evolved to include lampworking, most forms of metalsmithing, and lapidary. We have recently added unique and handmade jewelry components for jewelry designers by jewelry designers.
My main livelihood came from jewelry design and creation. Then the miracle of glass manipulation took place in September of 2003. Glass, previous to that day, was lovely to view and very fascinating; now it has become my obsession. I have become totally and absolutely driven to make beads from glops of molten glass on a stick. I have officially been kissed by the flame.
The jewelry that is I design now comes the influence of the mix of lampwork, lapidary, fiber, and silversmithing. I am pushed by the need of color that flows and ebbs within the flame.

I do not make any claims of perfection, even though I strive towards that goal. The only glass rules that I follow… is for the beads to be structurally sound and well made, combined with creative integrity. Everything else is, negotiable.

The influence of much of my lampwork comes from many different styles and favors. I have been greatly influenced by people such as Larry Scott, Kimberly Affleck, and Jennifer Geldard. This is because I greatly admire their work and because I’ve had the pleasure of studying with them.
